Sullinger done for the year

Here are a few quotes from Celtics' coach Doc Rivers regarding Jared Sullinger's recent back troubles.

"It's just what it is -- spasms and day-to-day. I don’t think it's anything bad. Just spasms, which are bad. No, I’m not that concerned. Could he miss games? Like I said yesterday, here and there he may. But it’s not anything career-threatening or anything like that."

It turns out he was wrong.

In the span of five days, the Celtics have lost their All-Star point guard, and today, they have lost their starting power forward.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Sullinger will undergo surgery on his back and will miss the rest of the season.

Sullinger left Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings nearly four minutes in after his back spasms acted up. According to coach Doc Rivers, Sullinger had been experiencing back pain for "a week or two."

Sullinger did not practice yesterday, but underwent tests to determine to severity of his back issues. He did not participate in this morning's shootaround.

20 teams passed on Sullinger in last year's NBA Draft, and this is exactly why.

Earlier today, the Celtics recalled Fab Melo from the D-League, and he is active and will dress for tonight's game.

Fab to the rescue, I guess.
