Even Kevin Garnett couldn't lift the Celtics over the Bucks.
I'll give them this: it's early. It's game two of eighty-two, so there should be no panicking, even after a total meltdown such as tonight. No flow, no intensity, no anything, really. The Celtics dropped their home opener tonight to the Milwaukee Bucks -- I know, the Milwaukee Bucks? Pretty embarrassing. Well, completely embarrassing to be honest.
There were very few signs of life in this one. The Celtics made it a "game" in the fourth quarter by cutting it to 15, but, just like that, the Bucks went right back up by 20, essentially ending any hope of a comeback.
Brandon Jennings had 21 points, 13 assists, and 6 steals and was the catalyst to this electric offense that the Bucks displayed tonight. Tobias Harris outscored his counterpart Paul Pierce 18-11, Courtney Lee was outplayed by Monta Ellis -- he went 6-of-20 and still played better -- and Rajon Rondo was vastly outplayed by Jennings.
Some other things..
The good:
One guy that you can always count on for a tremendous effort is Kevin Garnett. Garnett, after a quiet first half, willed his way 15 points and played with his trademark intensity. Although the results weren't there, KG played hard.
Same case scenario with Jared Sullinger. Sullinger led the team with 7 rebounds, including 3 on the offensive glass, which also led the team. Sullinger did a lot of dirty work tonight.
How about that pre-game video? That was insane. I loved it. Great to see them bring back the fireworks, too. Great stuff. Definitely a positive from tonight.
The bad:
Well, to make this short and sweet, everything. From turnovers, to rebounds, to shooting, nothing went well for the green team. Doc Rivers said after the game, "I still don't like our urgency. I don't like how we're approaching the games. Until we fix that, we're going to struggle. It's early."
And Rivers is right. It's early. Not boo bird worthy -- the boo birds came out before the halftime -- but their performance has not been to anyone's liking so far. Still, please people, give them time.
What's next for the Celtics? Well, they have the chance to right the ship tomorrow night as they trek down to our nation's capital for a date with Washington Wizards.
