What's the deal, Leandro? |
In an interview with Bradesco Sports FM, Barbosa said, "I will not lie to you: I tried to get out several times, but Danny Ainge does not want to let me go. He’s a guy that admires my basketball skills for many years. I was supposed to have got a good contract with the Boston Celtics, but did not. He will not let me go.”
The former Sixth Man of the Year has seen his playing time dwindle since the return of Avery Bradley. Over his last seven games, Barbosa is only averaging 6.3 minutes per game. On the season, Barbosa is averaging career-lows in points (4.9) and minutes (10.7).
Later in the interview, Barbosa mentioned that he is not comfortable being the backup point guard and that he would prefer to be the shooting guard, his usual position.
Barbosa even foreshadowed that things might get tricky, "A lot will happen. In a little while, you will hear a firecracker there.”
However, today after practice, Barbosa strongly denied the report, saying "No, I want to play. I want to be here. That's it."
According to the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett, Barbosa was shown both the translation and original story, and he denied ever making the statements. As far the inconsistent playing time, Barbosa said, "I knew it was going to be like this when I came here."
Seems to be bit of a fishy situation.
