Halftime thoughts: Celtics 53, Suns 41

Well that was an exciting second quarter.

With the help of the bench, the Celtics take a 12-point lead into the second half as they lead the Suns, 53-41.

Here are some thoughts:

* Jeff Green has been, in a word, spectacular. On the one-year anniversary f his heart surgery, Green is playing with a ferocity that we have rarely seen out of him. After his 16 point and 6 rebound performance on Monday night, Green leads the team with 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench on 3-of-6 from the floor. Green has led the charge in the second quarter, which include back-to-back dunks, a one-handed slam over former Celtic Jermaine O'Neal, and an alley-oop from Avery Bradley. He even had back-to-back steals, and one I then led to an Avery Bradley three-pointer to give Boston it's biggest lead, 47-35.

* Boston allowed way too many points in the paint early on. Phoenix got easy baskets at the rim, but the Celtics made the adjustment and closed up the middle.

* The second unit is the main reason why the Celtics have a twelve point lead. In a quarter in which the Celtics out scored the Suns 30-17, the bench played a vital role in supplying this lead. The Celtics' bench is outscoring Phoenix's bench 25-13.

* Jared Sullinger is doing his usual dirty work around the rim. He drew a charge on Jermaine O'Neal and has grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds. His ability to finish at the rim is incredible. This kid is special.
